Welcome to Emily The Vampire Slayer, my name is Emily (surprised?) & this is my personal webspace that is free for me to say as I like in. You don't agree with my ramblings? That's fine, leave. I'm not out to offend or upset anyone but, like most, I'm very opiniated... that can often get in the way of my desire to be friends with everyone I meet because I won't drop my beliefs for anyone. Why should I? But feel free to take a look around and comment my blogs. Any questions, issues or complaints can be addressed here.
God? Yeah Right

I'm getting pretty sick of so many people being ready to tell me what to believe in. Religion: I hate it. Quite simply, I do, I'm an atheist... and I will say it proudly with no shame because I think it is something truly incredible to stand up with sense and reason in a world where so many people are barmy and believe that their lives and destinies are controlled by a higher being who has the divine right to forgive and punish us as they see fit. Did you know that during a poll just a few years ago over 50% of Americans said they would not elect an atheist - my God, and I thought my country had too much religion. The amount of religious nuts gathered in the states seems quite shocking.
Ah, but it's not just priests and those odd individuals who stand on corners believing they have a message from God; oh no, my own mother believes in God... strongly too. Why? Because her mother believed strongly. This is called childhood indoctrination and it is used frequently to bring children into religions that they know nothing about because a child is so susceptible to what their parents tell them, but it's all in ignorance. My mother has never read the Bible, neither had my Nanna. All they know are the sweet little diluted stories of Jesus who healed everybody, cared about prostitutes and got himself brutally murdered because of us naughty humans who can't behave. Religion has been used this way for centuries. If my mother had read the Bible, and read it properly and understood everything without letting her mind accept what it wanted because she was so dying to believe that there is a loving, caring God... if she had done all this, I do not believe her conscience would allow her to accept this God that she so loved anymore. Because the truth is not the sweet Jesus and the God who forgives us no matter what, but a story quite different in which God is racist, sexist, homophobic, violent, arrogant and extremely childish when he does not get his own way. The forgiving God who loves us all did not like the way people were behaving so he murdered them all (apart from one family who in some miraculous way managed to take a male and female of every species of animal onto a boat) and this darling who loves us all equally granted through Moses the consent for a group of his male followers to be rewarded for doing his work by raping virgins: “…kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.” Num. 31:15-18
In my opinion, God does not exist, he is the creation of man to keep control over people for centuries, to justify making women the slave of their husbands and an inferior sex, to abolish free will, to allow the creator of all the world to be - oh, wait for it... a big version of a man. Everything that is God reeks of male intervention; they say that God made man in his image, but Hell, it is far more man that made God in his. As God appears in the Bible, this is typical of your regular arrogant male. God, himself, is as good an argument for atheism as any... religion is disgusting and so is this creature that man created. It's clever, of course, that much is true... it's an unbelievably strong cult, even more incredulous is the fact that so many people are so willing to accept and submit to something they have never met, never seen nor heard, something they have never even been presented with any evidence for. I am astounded and afraid at it's power... look at 9/11, 7/7, look at what religion has done to the world, all in the name of something that all evidence suggests probably does not exist.
I do not believe in God. And I know some people want to believe because it's nice to think they have someone watching over them, an heaven to go to when they die... but I don't want to go anywhere near the thing depicted in the Bible and I solemnly hope it isn't true. As I said before, I do not believe in God, but if he does exist I am very afraid.
