Welcome to
Emily The Vampire Slayer, my name is Emily (
surprised?) & this is my personal webspace that is free for me to say as I like in. You don't agree with my ramblings? That's fine, leave. I'm not out to offend or upset anyone but, like most, I'm very opiniated... that can often get in the way of my desire to be friends with everyone I meet because I won't drop my beliefs for anyone.
Why should I? But feel free to take a look around and comment my blogs. Any questions, issues or complaints can be addressed
here.

So, all exams have been completed (even Maths stats - thank god!) and I am back at college starting A2 teaching. Unfortunately, I learned in the Monday morning assembly that I have no choice but to take Maths for the next four weeks up until the holidays and then I can drop it for A2, which I of course will be doing. Mr Daly's brilliant plan to allow us to assess our future options was to bring up a powerpoint with slides entitles student 1, 2, 3... etc, showing us what we could be doing at A2 level starting in September. My desired option (because I am awkward) was not up on the board but I checked it with him and got the thumbs up. Basically, I'm going to take three A2s: English Literature, History and Psychology, one AS: Government and Politics, and the International Baccalaureate. The last thing, if you don't know, is an all-rounder project involving an extended writing and presentation task on any subject of your choice and then 100 hours enrichment; this last bit means a combination of say work experience, charity events and hobbies such as sports or music. And the Baccalaureate generally looks pretty snazzy to Universities. As for the subjects, we've been given an insight into the ones we are carrying on at A2 already... for English Literature the subject is Gothic novels, the exam (60%) texts we will be studying are Dracula for section A and Macbeth, Wuthering Heights and The Pardoner's Tale for section B; whereas the coursework texts you can pick yourself and you must do two essays with 1500-2000 word count. I don't mind the extra work we have to do this year because I love the genre and I adore all these novels - I'm actually looking forward to reading them, which I guess makes me geek of the year! I should have plenty of time over these upcming holidays to flood my brain with all this classic literature. In Psychology, though, I haven't quite gathered what the whole course entails; I know psychopathology is a big part of this first sector leading up to the January exam, and then some of your regular Freud & Dream analysis stuff later on, apart from that we could be in for some mystery and surprises.

History, on the other hand, is pretty straight forward: it's about Germany... the unification of Germany and Prussia and Austria and the 39 states and... I think you're getting the idea. Okay, I'm making it sound boring but I am actually enjoying it so far, even without Mr Daly as a teacher this year. Yep, he's been traded in for Miss Beevers. I don't mind Miss Beevers, she was awesome on the History trip in year 10 but Mr Daly was such a good teacher I'm definitely going to miss him, and his powerpoints with the funny pictures of course. Today, in my last period that I had free, me, Sarah, Nikki and Catie all made a poster that we left on Mr Daly's desk as our method of protest/joke; it said 'Daly or Disunion', this was because during our history lessons with him, he would say 'Lecompton or Disunion' when referring to the events leading up to the US civil war. It's just our queer humour.
Now, let's talk study-related but off your regular subjects. Firstly, I have been to see the Careers woman and she is organising me some work experience with an MP because I told her I was interested in Politics, so it looks like I will be the assistant to Ed Balls or Yvette Cooper. They're both Labour MPs so she did ask if I would prefer her to have a word with the local Conservative MPs, I said "To be honest, they're pretty much all the same to me" and she smiled and whispered "yeah, they're all tossers, aren't they?" Hehe. But anyway, that should look pretty impressive when I go to University. Also, I have been looking for work in my own time to earn some money. I am going to apply in Nando's at Freeport and I have also got an application form to be a school prefect, which pays £7 per hour and I don't even have to leave college. They have opened positions for Head Boy and Head Girl now and we have been told to nominate the people we think would be best for the job. Most of my group of friends have nominated Becky Lobb because we know she'd be awesome at it, and Dooley has come up with a silly campaign slogan: 'In Lobb we trust'. We don't even get to do the campaigns in seriousness because the teachers make the selections, but oh well.
There are also lots of opportunities this year to spend days out at Universities and on college outings. We already have two trips partially organised for English, one to Howarth (aka 'Bronte Country') because that's the home of the Bronte sisters, and another trip to London to see 'A Streetcar Named Desire'. I'm also planning on attending open days whenever possible; I wanted to attend the York University one in a couple of weeks but I was too late to book it so I'll have to go in October instead. I'm also going to the Leeds Met UCAS fair next Friday to check out the various Universities that will set up there and then, on the following Thursday, I'll be going to Cambridge University as well. So busy, busy, I guess.
By the way, it was Jake's birthday last Tuesday and we all went to Eastern court for a meal. That is what the photo is from and that is why I think I may have doubled my body weight in about an hour. This is true. See below for upcoming events.
