Welcome To The Hellmouth

Welcome to Emily The Vampire Slayer, my name is Emily (surprised?) & this is my personal webspace that is free for me to say as I like in. You don't agree with my ramblings? That's fine, leave. I'm not out to offend or upset anyone but, like most, I'm very opiniated... that can often get in the way of my desire to be friends with everyone I meet because I won't drop my beliefs for anyone. Why should I? But feel free to take a look around and comment my blogs. Any questions, issues or complaints can be addressed here.

Sims, Elections & Killer Machines

08.06.09
I am going to update as normal today, on my life and my fanlistings and such... as it goes, you know. But I am also going to start reviewing and offering my insightful critique of various elements of the world around me, in this case Sims 3 and the new Terminator film. I will hold back the thing I really want to scream out about as I am so totally thrilled and ecstatic and may explode if I release it all at once. Well, for starts I have completed my final real exam because Maths stats really doesn't count now, does it? That horrendous little nightmare that's been haunting me ever since I moved back to St Wilfrid's and left the delightful batty Debs for Mrs I-can't-teach Park. So, anyway, I'm happy to be out and about; this Friday the whole 'gang' has made plans to go to Scarborough for the day, counting on the weather being nice of course... it will be really fun if it works out. Everything is pretty cheerful at the moment. Except for my Grandad, he's been in a lot of pain with his kidneys and stayed at the hospital over this last weekend, he's home now but he's got to go back for loads of scans and I'm really worried about him.
I can't hold back much longer, I'm afraid, and I think this is about the appropriate time where I usually talk about my fanlisting updates. Well, here goes: I have received approvals for England: York(Towns/Cities), England: University Of Oxford(Academia), The Yoko Factor(Episodes), Edward Rochester(Characters: Book/Movie) and, oh my fucking god, I have also received an approval for: James Marsters(Physical)!!! I have been waiting and longing to hear a positive reply for what seems like ages and I feel like the luckiest person ever now! I will treasure it like a fanlistings whore loves her favourite fanlisting (okay, that is actually me). I just can't believe, though, that so many of my favourite things have come up at one time. The other day, the Angel episode 'A New World' got put up for adoption and I love that episode so I had to apply... and today, hell, today Seth Green was removed from the network, leaving it open for application - so, like, I had to. I'm going to give the fanlistings a rest for now and start rabbiting on about the recent things I have tried and tested. And I am going to be harsh and critical, I am a top-level critical thinker according to Mr Daly so I must put it to good use.
Right then: on Saturday my delightful cousin Amanda bought me the new Sims 3 much to my utter amazement as I was completely skint and dying to try the new game. I have played it, assessed it and I am now here ready with my valuable opinion (yeah right). The neighbourhood graphics are about one million times better without a doubt, but the Sims... ummm, not so sure. I think perhaps they do look more real in some ways, and yet in others ever more cartoony. They remind me very much of the character graphics on The Movies game and therefore not all that attractive. It is much harder to make a pretty sim on the Sims 3 that it is to get those perfect features on the Sims 2, however there are many more different faces and designs to choose from which is a major positive. Equally, I love the idea to be able to create your own colours, blends and designs for nearly everything: hair, eyes, clothes, furniture, you name it! I also like the new social interactions available and the way in which a person's individual traits reflect the person they are going to be and the career path they will choose, it gives a much more lifelike feel to it. I was, however, rather annoyed that something they advertised in the demo wasn't strictly true. It states that you are allowed to go to work with your Sims but that's only correct if you like waiting and staring at the outside of a building for six or seven hours. I do like the way in which everything in the neighbourhood is so much easier to access, rather than the game having to load every time you want to leave the house. I would be much happier, though, if more starter neighbourhoods were available to pick from. You begin with just the one, which is upgraded to two if you register online... this seems a little shitty of EA Games. I also really don't like this: one family, one game malarkey - what's all that about? What happened to creating neighbourhoods thriving with your own Sims?? I am, I will say, very pleased to discover that the motherlode cheat still works and that you can maxmotives with the 'testingcheatsenabled true' cheat. So, basically, I'd give it a 5/10 for game improvement and a 8/10 overall. In short, I would have tweaked a few things myself but I'm going to keep right on playing it.
Now for the Terminator Salvation film. I went to see it with Jack and I was impressed. Years ago I recall watching the first two films and enjoying them, but I never watched the third film because everyone said it was rubbish. This one was impressive, to be honest, I like how the story is panning out and how it meets up with the present day (or future as it is in this case) but the blank pages are filling out and I think it's all a very clever story. Though, I'm not much into films with too much fighting (only Kill Bill got away with that) and I think some scenes seemed to drag on slightly because of it. Also, I was disappointed with the character played by Sam Worthington, his story was ambiguious and I can only hope that he serves a greater purpose to the story with the next film. Perhaps he is paving the way for a whole new design of robots, which would definitely make it worthwhile and a decidedly good idea. At the minute, however, it just looks like they've thrown him in to enable John Connor to infiltrate the headquarters of the machines and survive to the end. I don't want to give out too many spoilers but I have to say that the return of you-know-who was unexpectedly brilliant, even though it was him but it wasn't... people who've watched the film should know what I mean. Anyway, I am looking forward to the next in the series and I really hope it delivers well.
In slightly more real life, I can't believe that Yasmina won The Apprentice over Kate. Kate was far better at sales, at presenting, her people skills were brilliant, she was amazing in the interviews where Yasmina was found to have lied on her application... Kate was an entirely better contestant - it just seemed too simple for me which one he should have picked. One of Sir Alan's excuses for it was that Kate was cold and 'robotic', but she wasn't robotic she was good. Like Kate herself said, why should she be called robotic because she was good at everything and got it all right. Most employers bite the hand off people like that to hire them, it just seems ridiculous to me. And now to go completely off The Apprentice, I'm thinking of joining the UK Youth Parliament, or at least attempting to. It would look great on my University applications to show that I'm interested in Politics. But it's a rather complicated process, so we shall see. The country has recently gone into turmoil because of the unexpected win of the BNP that has got them a seat in the European council. Some people believe that it is exactly what this country needs and are delighted at this development, whilst others feel very strongly against it - enough to pelt Nick Griffin with eggs, in fact. Me? Well, I've said it before and I'll gladly say it again now: I agree with every policy of the BNP except their racism... so, what do you do? They scare me a little because if you visit their website and read their policies on other races, some of what they say sounds very Hitler-ish. But now go read their policies on every single other thing and it sounds... perfect. It's a dilemma, and one which the country may seriously face quite soon.
Ahh, well, that's enough for now, I have amazing fanlisting approvals to build. Thanks for reading. Back soon.
