Welcome To The Hellmouth
Opened: August 8, 2008

Welcome to Emily The Vampire Slayer, my name is Emily (surprised?) & this is my personal webspace that is free for me to say as I like in. You don't agree with my ramblings? That's fine, leave. I'm not out to offend or upset anyone but, like most, I'm very opiniated... that can often get in the way of my desire to be friends with everyone I meet because I won't drop my beliefs for anyone. Why should I? But feel free to take a look around and comment my blogs. Any questions, issues or complaints can be addressed here.

I'm going to start with the title this time: it's one of my ultimate favourite songs. There are so many versions, though. The most famous is probably Juice Newton's but I actually prefer the one sung by Billie Davies, maybe because it was the first version I heard played. Anyway, listen to it, it's a beautiful song.
Me and Jake also made some videos for his website, but unbeknownst to him I have uploaded them to Youtube. Here's his beautiful turned funny rendition of Amazing Grace. And our many other outtakes were hilarious... by the way, I'm going to share a poem with you. It's not really relevant to much I have to talk about but the last line always grips me and makes me think; we did it for GCSE and I'm pretty sure many of you may have come across it before, but anyway, here you are:

At the stoplight waiting for the light
nine a.m. downtown San Francisco
a bright yellow garbage truck
with two garbagemen in red plastic blazers
standing on the back stoop
one on each side hanging on
and looking down into
an elegant open Mercedes
with an elegant couple in it
The man
in a hip three-piece linen suit
with shoulder-lenght blond hair & sunglasses
The young blond woman so casually coifed
with short skirt and coloured stockings
on the way to his architect's office.

And the two scavengers up since four a.m.
grungy from their route
on the way home
The older of the two with grey iron hair
and hunched back
looking down like some
gargoyle Quasimodo
And the younger of the two
also with sunglasses & long hair
about the same age as the Mercedes driver.

And both scavengers gazing down
as from a great distance
at the cool couple
as if they were watching some odorless TV ad
in which everything is always possible.

And the very red light for an instant
holding all four close together
as if anything at all were possible
between them
across that small gulf
in the high sea
of this democracy.

I'm not going to bother dwelling too long on the philosophical meanings of the poem, so there you have it.
And now, back to what I was saying in my last blog about travelling and visiting places in Britain firstly. Well, it has begun. Today I went to Dewsbury and visited a museum about the Wartime Britain and also old schools and childrens toys, then we went to Wakefield Cathedral - which was beautiful, by the way. I'm going to add photos to the gallery in a new sub-folder called 'British Tour 2009', which I hope to have pretty full by the time the year is through. In fact, tomorrow I'm going to Leeds to take pictures and also to visit Forbidden Planet (some things never change - hehe) and then on Wednesday, I'm off to York to see the Minster again and visit the Shambles - did you know that York is over 2000 years old?
okay, okay, I'm going to stop now before the 'Big Day' tomorrow, well actually today now - isn't it? Couple of last things: I have a new affiliate and here is a list of books that I need to complete reading:

Notes From A Small Island
Great Expectations
Neither Here Nor There
Martyn Pig
Chick Wit
Deep Secret
LBD: It's A Girl Thing
Child X
Keeping The Moon
Queenan Country
A Brief History Of Time: From The Big Bang To Black Holes
Coming Up For Air

Final Thing - Question Time:
Your favourite book of all time?
Travel: Exciting or scary?
Do you like to keep lists or are you unorganised?
