Welcome To The Hellmouth

Welcome to Emily The Vampire Slayer, my name is Emily (surprised?) & this is my personal webspace that is free for me to say as I like in. You don't agree with my ramblings? That's fine, leave. I'm not out to offend or upset anyone but, like most, I'm very opiniated... that can often get in the way of my desire to be friends with everyone I meet because I won't drop my beliefs for anyone. Why should I? But feel free to take a look around and comment my blogs. Any questions, issues or complaints can be addressed here.

Men, Power & Americans

24.11.08
For one thing, they are ultimately great problems with this world. They are the three things that, for want of a better phrase: 'think they're better than everyone else or attempt to establish superiority'. Weird thing is, in some ways, I like or have liked at some point each one of the three, in fact, funnily enough I have a thing for powerful, American men, take that one for irony. Anyway, the point is, it has come to me after reading so much of the Times and generally from having a lot of thoughts and opinions building up for a while, that these are major issues. I sort of wish I could put them all away in a box for safe-keeping and get them out when I want to.
Men are basically very simple creatures but have caused a lot of problems, like discrimination for instance. Either sexual or racial or whatever. They caused oppression and the lack of women's and black's rights. By use of the term 'black' you would assume I am talking about the white men causing these problems... well, to a certain extent that is true, but only because they were the ones who managed to gain power and the upper hand, if it had been the other way round like in Malorie Blackman's 'Noughts And Crosses' don't think the black men would have better treated the whites, it's all a matter of power. It just so happened that the white men took it before the black men could, and thus it happened the way it did. The big joke about this entire situation of the issue of superioriy and inferiority is that underneath men are simply all the same. They want power, they desire to be better than their fellow men. To some extent, women suffer this nightmare trait of humanity but not to such a disturbing degree. A woman likes to be prettier and have more success than other women and she is competitive and wants to win over another; however, they do not often seek to have total encompassing power over another woman and it is rare to find a woman who gains satisfaction from this. A woman wants to be wanted and loved my men and women alike, whereas a man wants to be above and have something over other men and women.
I am a white (British) girl and I go to a college where many races attend. I have many good friends, three of which are called Shuvai, Steph and Lydia. Shuvai is a black girl from Jamaica, Steph is an Asian girl from China and Lydia is a black girl from India. I do not look upon them any differently for the colour of their skin or their country of origin - why should I? The thought of doing so seems ridiculous to me. The idea that a developed intelligent race can look down upon others because of the amount of white light of the spectrum their skin absorbs - I'm disgusted to call myself human.
And, lastly, this whole deal with America. I like America, great weather (usually), great films (usually) and great people (usually). I was rather shocked recently when I came across a book written by an American called: '101 Ways The British Ruined The World'. I admit that a lot of ancient nasties like concentration camps were founded in Britain. But the idea that the young, snot-nosed America can call their Motherland, and in fact, the Motherland of many, the ruiner of the world makes me throw up a little in my mouth. We made them, they are us, they are our little brother as many put it. America is a fantastic place, gigantic and prosperous... and yet it is the homeland of a million imbeciles. On the other hand, Britain is a tiny little island that you have to squint at to see on the map and is the foundation of the world as we know it and for as long as we can remember. I'll save you the regular lists of intelligent and wonderful people who've come from Britain as I'll take it you're not stupid and you get the idea. I'm pretty patriotic you see and I can't stand people putting down my ancient and amazing country. I see being English (or British) as being something truly incredible and I wouldn't swap my little place on the map for the rest of the world combined.
